From the moment we are born, our inherent design as human beings is to connect. They have the power to either disconnect us from our true selves or help us connect more deeply with who we really are, affecting our authenticity in profound ways. They offer a mirror through which we can see our true nature more clearly or in contrast can distort this reflection.

The Disconnect

Many of us have experienced a relationship that have led us away from our true selves. Unhealthy relationships characterized by manipulation, control, or emotional abuse can erode our self-esteem and inner strength, making it challenging to stay true to ourselves. These detrimental dynamics can create barriers to self-expression and personal growth, hindering our ability to connect with our authentic selves.

This disconnect usually occur when we compromise our values, beliefs, and boundaries to please others or fit into societal norms. For example, a person may suppress their true passions and interests to conform to their partner's expectations, resulting in a loss of authenticity and self-identity. Such relationships can significantly undermine our self-identity, filling us with doubt and eroding us inside. When our self-perception is clouded, we might have difficulties to make different, more authentic choices.

We can attract experiences with similar negative patterns later on, especially if we even slightly resonate with the negativity projected onto us or we recognize such negative behavior from our early familial interactions.
